Myth: we have to save the earth

Myth: we have to save the earth. Frankly, the earth doesn't need to be saved. Nature doesn't give a hoot if human beings are here or not. The planet has survived cataclysmic and catastrophic changes for millions upon millions of years. Over that time, it is widely believed, 99 percent of all species have come and gone while the planet has remained. Saving the environment is really about saving our environment - making it safe for ourselves, our children, and the world as we know it. If more peop… Continue

dollars for digital trash

Gazelle offers what it calls "ReCommerce" on cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, laptops, GPS devices, gaming consoles, camcorders, satellite radios, portable hard drives, video games and movies. Users begin by specifying the particular item they want to sell, following the site's prompts for key bits of information; some 18,000 SKUs are listed. An online calculator then responds with an instant quote on how much Gazelle will pay for that product. For those with no market value, the compa… Continue

Making medicine as ubiquitous as Coca-Cola

It's a tragic fact of life today that one in five African children die before their fifth birthday from simple causes like dehydration from diarrhoea. Basic medicines could save those children's lives, yet no means has been found to make them readily available. A new grassroots project, however, aims to tap into the formidable distribution network of none other than Coca-Cola to get life-saving medicines to the children who need them.

The ColaLife project aims to distribute oral rehydration sal… Continue

This makes my head spin...

Wow... I have such mixed feelings about this! The local, lower footprint, truth in product representation yadda yadda yadda, well, yeah it's a good thing... but damn, ya still gotta cry over all those damn bottles...

Is this a "good start" with the best of intentions? Or is it blatant greenwashing? Thoughts?

"first environment-focused commercial media in Quebec"

Montreal-based Branchez-Vous has developed a new social networking website called MaTerre.ca for those interested in environmental matters. The site is intended to allow users to share their ideas and projects with others, and to plan and promote activities in support of the environment. The site also includes a blog, news coverage, a listing of upcoming events, a directory of environmental organizations and various videos. Hey Kim, Thanks for the message, just realized you left me one on here... sorry it's a month later...Search is going ok. I have been working with Aquent and have been to a couple different agencies on assignments. Then a couple weeks ago Patrick gave me the opportunity to work at Grip for short term on contract, I'm really enjoy it and learning a lot of valuable information.

How are things on your end? How was your vacation?

Bernard, you were great! I enjoyed your presentation - it was concise, clear and to-the-point. You, more than anyone else there, truly respected the time constraint yet managed to fit in your key information. The links you gave us all will be fabulous to explore in greater depth; I know if you'd had tons of time, you would likely have pulled some of those up on the screen, but you found the solution to that with your example screen caps. Job well done! The night, as a whole, was a success and I'm glad I attended.
Look forward to seeing you again soon!
